The vampire genre gets an injection of 70s giallo glamour in Antonio Margheriti's Seven Deaths in the Cat's Eye, featuring an irresistible cast of European stars. Young Corringa (Jane Birkin) arrives at her family's crumbling Scottish castle and finds herself plunged into a nightmare of intrigue and murder. As bodies begin to pile up — each victim found with their eyes removed — suspicion falls on the castle's enormous black cat, a sinister count, and a host of shady family members. Part giallo, part gothic horror, part locked-room mystery, the film weaves together atmosphere, black humour and stylish carnage in a way only Italian genre cinema of the early 1970s could achieve.
