GERMAN | CONSPIRACY THRILLER | CRIME | DRAMA | MYSTERY | THRILLER

Collection of six crime thrillers starring Wolfgang Preiss as the eponymous criminal mastermind. In 'The 1000 Eyes of Dr Mabuse' (1960) Dr Mabuse returns after a long absence and begins to corrupt those around him once more so that they will enact his evil schemes. A reporter killed in his car, an American staying in a German hotel who attempts to help a woman being threatened by her husband and an insurance salesman also staying at the hotel are all tied to Dr Mabuse. In 'The Return of Dr Mabuse' (1961) Inspector Lohmann (Gert Fröbe) investigates the murder of an Interpol courier who was carrying evidence connecting the Chicago mob to European gangsters, which has now been stolen. As Lohmann works the case, he uncovers evidence that Dr Mabuse has been able to brainwash the inmates of a prison and can now control them and make them do his bidding. 'The Invisible Dr Mabuse' (1962) follows Professor Erasmus (Rudolf Fernau) who has created a drug that can render him invisible. He uses it to stalk the object of his obsession but when Dr Mabuse learns of it, he seeks to use it on a much grander scale. 'The Testament of Dr Mabuse' (1962) is a remake of the 1933 film directed by Fritz Lang. As Inspector Lohmann investigates a series of crime sprees across the city, he comes to suspect that Dr Mabuse is responsible, despite the fact that he is currently imprisoned in an asylum under the care of Professor Pohland (Walter Rilla). In 'Scotland Yard Hunts Dr Mabuse' (1963) Pohland is possessed by the spirit of Dr Mabuse and travels from Germany to England where he begins convincing innocent people to do his bidding. Finally, in 'The Death Ray of Dr Mabuse' (1964), a scientist has invented a death ray capable of destoying any city on the planet. He plans to sell it to the highest bidder but Dr Mabuse has plans of his own in motion.
