Brian De Palma's Carlito's Way (1993) reunites the director with Al Pacino for a melancholy gangster film set in the criminal milieu of 1970s New York. Carlito Brigante (Pacino), a Puerto Rican drug lord, is released from prison on a technicality engineered by his flamboyant lawyer Kleinfeld (Sean Penn) and vows to go straight — to earn enough money to escape with his girlfriend Gail (Penelope Ann Miller) and leave his old world behind. But Kleinfeld's own corruption and recklessness drag Carlito back into violence and danger. Featuring supporting performances from John Leguizamo, Luis Guzmán, and Viggo Mortensen, and a score by Patrick Doyle, the film is widely regarded as one of De Palma's finest works. Arrow Films presents a 2-disc Limited Edition with a new 4K restoration from the original camera negative.
