Brian Clemens's Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter (1973) arrived at the end of the Hammer cycle, when the studio's formula had been exhausted and it was experimenting with revision and parody. Kronos (Horst Janson), a former soldier with a hunchbacked scholar-assistant (John Cater), travels the countryside hunting vampires — a specific type of vampire in this case, one that drains youth rather than blood, leaving its victims ancient and dead while remaining young itself. The film deploys the spaghetti western aesthetic and the martial arts cinema that were then at peak popularity, giving Kronos a laconic cool and a fighting style entirely unlike the traditional Van Helsing model. Caroline Munro is luminous in a role that the screenplay underuses; the mythology is inventive; the tone is lighter than Hammer normally attempted. Making its worldwide 4K debut in this landmark Hammer limited collector's edition, with a brand-new restoration from the original negative film elements presented in three distinct versions: the 1.66:1 UK Theatrical, the 1.37:1 As-Filmed, and the 1.85:1 US Theatrical cuts, each with dedicated audio commentaries and introductions. Premium packaging includes a leather-feel slipcase, rigid inner box with artwork by Graham Humphreys, double-sided poster, eight art cards, and a 100-page House of Hammer comic.
