Rutger Hauer and C. Thomas Howell star in this thriller directed by Robert Harmon. Jim Halsey (Howell) is driving from Chicago to San Diego when he picks up hitchhiker John Ryder (Hauer) in Texas. However, Ryder is a dangerous murderer who dares Halsey to prevent him from killing again. When Halsey manages to escape, Ryder initiates a brutal game of cat and mouse, leaving the bodies of his latest victims for Halsey to find. Halsey finally finds a friend in truckstop waitress Nash (Jennifer Jason Leigh) but soon the police, as well as Ryder, are hunting them, because Ryder has framed Halsey for his crimes. Will Halsey be able to stop Ryder before it's too late?
