When the apparently lifeless body of American journalist Gregory Moore (Jean Sorel) is discovered in a Prague park and moved to the morgue, no one realises he is still alive — paralysed in a death-like state, silently screaming as doctors prepare his autopsy. With his mind racing against the clock, Gregory relives the terrifying chain of events that led to his condition: his Czech girlfriend Mira (Barbara Bach) has vanished without a trace, and his investigation into her disappearance has uncovered something deeply sinister lurking beneath the city's elegant facades — a secret that the powerful and privileged will kill to protect.
