Sonny Chiba, Kinnosuke Yorozuya and Hiroki Matsukata star in this Japanese samurai action directed by Kinji Fukasaku. In 1624, the sudden and suspicious death of the shogun sparks a bitter conflict between his two sons - Iemitsu (Matsukata) and Tadanaga (Teruhiko Saigo) - as to who will succeed him. As rival factions pledge allegiance to their preferred heir and the cause of the shogun's death is investigated, others seek to exploit the situation to weaken the Shogunate and return power to the Emperor. Meanwhile, samurai Munenori Yagyu (Yorozuya) and his sons Jubei (Chiba) and Munefuyu (Kentaro Kudo) become central to the conflict. The cast also includes Reiko Ohara, Yoshio Harada and Etsuko Shihomi.
