Journalist Raoul Duke (Johnny Depp) and his attorney Dr. Gonzo (Benicio del Toro) travel to Las Vegas ostensibly to cover the Mint 400 off-road race, armed with a suitcase full of narcotics. Terry Gilliam's anarchic adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson's semi-autobiographical novel follows the pair as they plunge into a drug-fuelled odyssey through the neon underbelly of the city, encountering hallucinations, paranoia, and a series of increasingly unhinged encounters that become a savage indictment of the American Dream.
